Applying for Employment

Applying for a job as a truck driver is a simple process but you must give your prospective employer everything they require in order to consider you for the position. In order to help clear up some confusion as to what is neccessary, please consult the information below.

1. Resume

Your resume is the first thing potential employers will look at, in the transportation industry the most important thing is the KISS (Keep it Simple, Stupid) principle. You want to show that you will be a certified, safe, reliable and dependable addition to their company. Do not over complicate matters, simplify the summary of all of your tasks and responsibilities at previous companies.

2. C.V.O.R.

Your Commercial Vehicle Operations Registration Record is essentially a much more detailed driving record. It will have all your infractions and interactions with Police and Enforcement personnel from the last 5 years. The fewer infractions, the better. Every employer will want to see this as this is on of the documents that your insurance rating is based on.

Included on your C.V.O.R. are:

  • Accidents
  • Convictions for Moving Violations
  • Enforcement of Inspection Results


3. Drivers Abstract

Your drivers abstract is your regular record of infractions and includes, any moving violations, licence suspensions, at fault accidents and conditions/restrictions.

4. References

Refrences from previous carriers a great way to show your performances for other companies in the industry. These letters should include your name, drivers licence number, how long you worked there, as well a general description of your duties and how well you performed them.
